A visit to Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach, for those who have not visited, is a lovely little town, full of galleries, restaurants, and amazing scenery in nearly every direction.  For photographers, it’s a veritable playground just asking you to get busy.    As I was in town for a few days, staying with friends, I did just that.  Here are a few of my snaps…

Probably the most photographed sea stack in Cannon Beach - Haystack Rock.

Likely the most photographed landscape in Cannon Beach - the iconic Haystack Rock.

This little sculpture commemorating Sacajawea was in a turn around at the center of what I assume are a bunch of vacation homes.  Each block was posted with No Parking signs – very unwelcoming, I thought.  Anyhow, I walked up here from my friends’ house (a lovely 3 bedroom home that they are trying to sell, by the way,  if you know anyone interested).   The sunsets were pretty amazing the few nights I was there.  Check them out – after the break…

It was a nice place to watch the sunset on the Fall Equinox.

The sun

A gull glides across the sky just before the sun disappears for the night.

The neighborhood outside the time share development, the one where my friends live, is quite fun and funky.  Here’s the sun room off the side of one of their neighbor’s houses.

There’s even a car down the block with flamingo lawn ornaments mounted all over it – apparently the couple that runs the kite shop in town drives it around.  This is all at the  quieter north end of town, near the entrance to Ecola State Park, which is well-worth a visit.  But that’s a story for another day…

Love the shots Bryan! We loved having you! I hope that we will be able to stay with you in your own place sooner than later in Pdx! :)

BTW…Just from an art teacher perspective, someone once told me when I took a few photography classes in college that the horizon line should be parallel to the bottom of the screen. Does that make sense? I noticed one of those shots that had a wee bit slanted horizon line….ooo the details an artist sees… :)
